A security product can send an alert at two in the morning. That does not tell you who reads it, how they decide whether it matters, or what they are authorized to do. Those are the questions behind a useful conversation about 24/7 managed security monitoring.
The service combines technical signals with people and procedures for assessing suspicious activity. A security operations center, usually called a SOC, can help provide that coverage. What it sees and what it can do depend on the connected systems, the configuration, and the service agreement. “Monitored” needs more detail than a check mark.
Visibility depends on what is connected
Endpoint monitoring can reveal activity on supported computers. Identity monitoring looks at accounts and sign-ins. A security information and event management system, or SIEM, brings selected logs together for analysis. These are related capabilities, not interchangeable names for the same thing.
An unmanaged laptop, an unconnected cloud application, or a disabled logging feature can leave a gap. Ask which devices and identities are covered, how missing agents are noticed, and what happens when new systems are added. A service cannot assess events it never receives.
Find out what happens after an alert
Triage means assessing the signal and deciding what it may represent. A responder may need to examine related activity, distinguish normal administration from suspicious behavior, and determine whether containment is warranted. Ask which actions are pre-authorized and which require your approval. Also ask how escalation reaches a real person when the primary contact is unavailable.
- Which systems and event types are monitored under the agreement?
- Who investigates an alert, and what information can they access?
- Can they isolate a device or restrict an account, and under what conditions?
- How are significant findings escalated, documented, and followed through?
How RIKR brings the layers together
RIKR’s managed endpoint detection and response uses SentinelOne with 24/7 management through the ConnectWise SOC. Identity protection and SIEM functionality use Huntress with 24/7 management. These are parts of our cybersecurity offering, with different visibility and response functions.
That coverage is separate from ordinary help desk availability. RIKR’s standard support day is Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. After-hours emergency work may incur additional costs. A 24/7 security service should not be mistaken for a promise that every user support request or recovery project is included around the clock.
Measure the follow-through
NIST’s Detect function addresses finding and analyzing possible attacks and compromises. For a business owner, useful evidence includes coverage checks, meaningful escalation records, and a clear explanation of what changed after a confirmed issue. A dashboard showing many alerts is not automatically evidence of a well-protected business.

Security should support the way your people work. Monitoring helps you see when something needs attention and gives responders context to act. It cannot guarantee every attack is caught or remove the need for patching, access controls, backup, and a practiced response plan.
